VERBIO: Stable demand for biofuel – The new financial year started on the right foot

Leipzig/Zörbig, May 12, 2010: VERBIO Vereinigte BioEnergie AG achieved revenues of EUR 111.5 million (Q1 2009: EUR 122.0 million) in the first quarter of 2010. Although, revenues were about EUR 10.5 million below the value of the first quarter of 2009, the earnings position has improved significantly.

VERBIO: Clear standardized EU-directives regarding climate protection allow a precise outlook

Leipzig/Zörbig, March 24, 2010 – In the 2009 financial year Vereinigte BioEnergie AG (VERBIO) achieved sales of EUR 501.7 million, which was nearly 25 percent below the previous years value (2008: EUR 666.6 million) due to demand development and pricing. The Group’s operating profit (EBIT) was EUR -3.0 million (2008: EUR 13.9 million). Besides the decline in sales, high cost of materials, which could only partially be transferred into the market, have burdened the result. The total result for the period disclosed amounts to EUR -7.3 million (2008: EUR 9.1 million). Hence earnings per share (basic and diluted) are EUR -0.12 (2008: EUR 0.15 per share).

VERBIO sells a part of its non-core wind park business

Leipzig/Zörbig, February 9, 2010: VERBIO Vereinigte BioEnergie AG (VERBIO) sold eight of its total fifteen wind mills. Besides the own wind mills, VERBIO operates 51 leased ones, whereof the leasing contracts for 23 wind mills expired with the turn of the year 2009/2010.

Response to contracted rye cultivation exceeds all expectations!

Leipzig, February 2, 2010 – The master agreement about the delivery of rye, which is acknowledged between the Landesbauernverbänden (national farmers’ unions) Brandenburg, Saxony-Anhalt and Saxony as well as VERBIO Vereinigte BioEnergie AG, generated in a short time first contracts with farmers.

New delivery alternative for rye

Leipzig, January 25, 2010 – The Landesbauernverbände (national farmers’ union) Brandenburg, Saxony-Anhalt and Saxony as well as VERBIO Vereinigte BioEnergie AG have acknowledged a master agreement about the delivery of rye. “This contract includes a new opportunity for the farmers to minimize their risks in the pricing and the marketing of rye,” explained Udo Folgart, Chairman of the Landesbauernverbandes (national farmers’ union) Brandenburg. The contracting parties are sure, that this cultivation contracts make a cooperative relationship between the farmers and the biofuel industry possible. With the delivery of raw materials for the biofuel industry, new marketing opportunities let establish.

VERBIO achieved Group revenues of EUR 380 million in the first nine months of 2009 – Group-EBIT again positive in the third quarter 2009

Leipzig/Zörbig, November 12, 2009: VERBIO Vereinigte BioEnergie AG (VERBIO) achieved Group revenues of EUR 380.0 million (9 M 2008: EUR 490.6 mill.) in the first nine months of the 2009 financial year. The Group-EBIT of the respective period was EUR -10.4 million (9 M 2008: EUR 15.1 mill.) and improved by EUR 0.8 million compared to 2009 half year’s Group- EBIT. The result of the period was EUR -14.9 million (9 M 2008: EUR 9.5 mill.).

Positive consolidated operating result in the second quarter 2009 – Utilization of biodiesel plants again over 90 percent

Leipzig/Zörbig, August 13, 2009: In the first half-year of the fiscal year 2009 VERBIO Vereinigte BioEnergie AG achieved total revenue in the amount of EUR 247.0 million (1. HY 2008: 298.8 million). The half-year consolidated operating result (EBIT) was at EUR -11.2 million (1. HY 2008: EUR 3.8 million). In the first half-year 2009 the manufacturing costs based on the contracted raw material basis, could be just partially passed down the market due to the price decline in fuel prices.

Sales in first quarter 2009 slightly under prior period – price drop in fuels strain interim result

Leipzig/Zörbig, May 14, 2009: In the first three month of fiscal year 2009 VERBIO Vereinigte BioEnergie AG achieved sales in the amount of EUR 122.0 million (Q1/2008: 125.1 million). The interim consolidated operating result was EUR -12.0 million (Q1/2008: EUR 0.7 million), mainly strained by high material costs. The manufacturing costs based on the contracted raw material basis, could be just partially passed down the market due to the price decline in fuel prices. In the first quarter the consolidated operating result was additionally influenced by the use respectively accumulation of impending loss provisions. The financial result improved by EUR 0.4 million to EUR -0.6 million (Q1/2008: EUR -1.0 million). The loss for the period amounted to EUR -13.8 million (Q1 2008: EUR -1.4 million).

The biofuels industry's request for a binding EU-wide ruling on the promotion of renewable energy sources has been implemented. VERBIO expects an increase in demand for sustainably produced biodiesel and bioethanol.

Zörbig/Leipzig, 17 December 2008 – On 12 December 2008, the EU heads of state and government ratified the Directive on the Promotion of Renewable Energies as part of the EU climate package. This is the first time that a binding ruling on the use of renewable energy sources in the transport sector has been passed at the EU level. The management board at VERBIO Vereinigte BioEnergie AG (VERBIO) predicts that this directive will have considerable impact on the nature of the regulatory framework in Germany.

Study: German bioethanol saves up to 80% CO2 emissions – Federal Cabine forces over 25 per cent of biofuel manufactureers into bankruptcy

Berlin, 25 November 2008 German bioethanol manufactured from grain emits up to 80% less CO2 than fossil fuels. These are the findings of a study carried out by the Heidelberg IFEU Institute (Institute for Energy and Environmental Research) and commissioned by the biofuel manufacturer VERBIO Vereinigte BioEnergie AG. “We are very gratified by the positive results which have emerged from this investigation of our production plants. With the impetus provided by the enormous potential of our production techniques, VERBIO will be commissioning the world’s two largest biogas plants next year,” says Claus Sauter, VERBIO’s CEO. “The best part about it is that the raw material for the biogas production is a waste product of the ethanol production.“

Growth in cash flow and earnings in first half of 2008, Study proves VERBIO biofuels reduce CO2 emissions by over 80 percent

Leipzig/Zörbig, 14 August 2008: VERBIO Vereinigte BioEnergie AG, one of the leading producers and suppliers of biofuels, achieved significant year-on-year growth in sales, as well as cash-flow and earnings, in the first six months of its fiscal year 2008. Sales revenue was up 46.6 percent to EUR 298.8 million as of 30 June 2008. Gross margin improved from EUR 29.6 million to EUR 37.6 million. The company’s operating result (EBIT) before commodity futures rose to EUR 10.2 million, compared with EUR 1.1 million last year. VERBIO had cash and cash equivalents of EUR 73.8 million as of 30 June 2008, representing an increase of EUR 16.7 million compared with EUR 57.1 million as of 31 December 2007.

VERBIO: the Biodiesel result improved against previous year, higher operating cash flow, equity ratio 59.5%

Leipzig/Zörbig, May 15, 2008: In the first 3 months of the current 2008 financial year VERBIO, shows a sales plus of 21.3% to 125.1 million EUR (Q1 2007: 103.1 million EUR) compared to the previous year’s period. The Gross Margin accounts for 17.8 million EUR after 16.1 million EUR in Q1 2007, the operating result of the Group is 0.7 Mio. EUR versus 3.3 million EUR in the first quarter 2007. The decrease of the result follows from still to be processed forward contracts in the segment ethanol and less capacity utilisation compared to previous year’s utilisation. The result of the period is -1.4 million EUR (Q1 2007: 0.3 million EUR).

VERBIO’s preliminary annual financial statements for fiscal 2007 marked by special non-cash item in Bioethanol – Good liquidity and financial position

Leipzig/Zörbig, 19 March 2008 – VERBIO generated preliminary sales of EUR 408.0 million in 2007 (2006: EUR 446.2 million*). Its preliminary consolidated operating result (EBIT) after special items amounted to EUR -254.5 million (2006: EUR 44.1 million*), the preliminary consolidated result before tax totalled EUR -256.7 million (2006: EUR 38.8 million*).

Sprint Tank GmbH will be officially opening its new Sprint flagship in the Berlin borough of Zehlendorf on November 28, 2007. As Sprint Tank GmbH says, “We’re back again – bigger and better than ever”. This medium-sized Berlin-based mineral oil company is returning to the Berlin borough of Zehlendorf after an absence of almost 15 years. Biodiesel business profitable, EBIT margin 5.9% – Ethanol well below expectations – Outlook confirmed

Zörbig/Leipzig, November 14, 2007 – In the first nine months of 2007 VERBIO Vereinigte BioEnergie AG (VERBIO) achieved Group revenues of 307.1 million EUR. The operating result of the Group before special items was 6.8 million EUR corresponding to an EBIT margin of 2.2 %. The operating result after special items amounts to 1.5 million EUR (EBIT margin: 0.5%). As earnings before tax 0.4 million EUR were reported, and net profit -0.6 million EUR. Earnings per share are -0.01 EUR.
