VERBIO Makes an Appearance at the 3rd International Conference on Environmentally Friendly Cars (the EFV Conference) in Dresden, Germany

Zörbig/Dresden, Germany, November 21, 2007 – For VERBIO Vereinigte BioEnergie AG (VERBIO), one of foremost biofuel producers in Europe, the 3rd International Conference on Environmentally Friendly Cars (the EFV Conference) hosted by the German Ministry for Traffic, Construction and Urban Development during the G8 presidency is an important platform for grappling with the perspective of modern mobility on track for the future. It should target producing environmentally friendly cars based on next-generation technologies and driven by alternative sustainable fuels.

In his talk, Claus Sauter, chairperson of the management board VERBIO, called for utilising the entire actual potential of efficiently produced CO2-reduced fuels. Biodiesel and bioethanol are fuels that already meet environmental requirements. That is why political control mechanisms should objectively analyse the currently available biofuels produced under European social and environmental standards. It is essential to introduce an extensive sustainability ordinance because this is the only way to put an end to the polemics in the discussion of biofuels versus bread. It makes a lot of sense to set forth a sustainability ordinance for defining how much agricultural land should be earmarked for producing fuels or foodstuffs and how biological diversity can be guaranteed to prevent monocultures. Claus Sauter said that “From the onset, VERBIO has positioned itself to allow optimum energy and CO2 efficiency along the entire value-added chain.” But, he added “that doesn’t mean that we don’ keep an eye on the research and development of BtL fuels. At the same time, we shouldn’t forget that BtL fuels need biomass that we do not have an unlimited supply of”.

High-ranking representatives from the government, the industrial sector, the scientific community and consumer associations from all over the world got the facts at VERBIO’s stand on the quality of our fuels and the efficiency and environmentally friendliness of our production plants.
