Deloitte Axia-Award 2009: VERBIO- winner in the category innovation management, because VERBIO stands for sustainability and innovative production processes
Leipzig/Zörbig, January 21, 2010: VERBIO Vereinigte BioEnergie AG has been awarded with the Axia-Award 2009. Yesterday, the Management Board members, Claus Sauter and Dr. Georg Pollert, received the award during a ceremony in Berlin. The price, which is awarded by Deloitte, a financial advisory and consulting company, honours companies in eastern Germany, which operate sustainable and successful despite or just because of the economically challenging times.
In total, 44 companies applied for being awarded. VERBIO was able to convince the jury chaired by Dr. Eric Schweitzer, member of the Management Board of Alba AG and president of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce Berlin, in the category “innovation management”. The jury substantiated their decision for VERBIO as follows: “As a leading producer and supplier of biofuels in Europe and as a branch pioneer, VERBIO decisively influenced the development of this forward-looking technology and the whole production process. The high innovation ability is amongst other things supported by the connection of agricultural and technical know-how in the Management Board and by the specific recruitment of high qualified and motivated personnel. Through their integrated energy concept, considering high sustainability standards and transferring about 86 percent of the raw materials to energy, VERBIO manages a high quota of CO2 reduction and is therefore actively contributing to the climate protection.”
Furthermore, the jury is certain, “that the company continuously invests in the optimization of the production plants, as well as the extension of the raw material basis (multi-feedstock-strategy) and that VERBIO consequently pioneers to an integrated producer of bioenergy by the commissioning of its biogas plants.”
Claus Sauter, Chairman of the Management Board: “We are proud to receive the award and take this as a motivation to achieve an even higher contribution to the climate protection and CO2 reduction. In this regard, an important project is the utilization of grain slop, which results from the bioethanol production, in our own biogas plants. The project runs as scheduled. By the production of biogas we will clearly improve our already well CO2 balance.”
