Deloitte Axia-Award 2009: VERBIO- winner in the category innovation management, because VERBIO stands for sustainability and innovative production processes

Leipzig/Zörbig, January 21, 2010: VERBIO Vereinigte BioEnergie AG has been awarded with the Axia-Award 2009. Yesterday, the Management Board members, Claus Sauter and Dr. Georg Pollert, received the award during a ceremony in Berlin. The price, which is awarded by Deloitte, a financial advisory and consulting company, honours companies in eastern Germany, which operate sustainable and successful despite or just because of the economically challenging times.

VERBIO achieved Group revenues of EUR 380 million in the first nine months of 2009 – Group-EBIT again positive in the third quarter 2009

Leipzig/Zörbig, November 12, 2009: VERBIO Vereinigte BioEnergie AG (VERBIO) achieved Group revenues of EUR 380.0 million (9 M 2008: EUR 490.6 mill.) in the first nine months of the 2009 financial year. The Group-EBIT of the respective period was EUR -10.4 million (9 M 2008: EUR 15.1 mill.) and improved by EUR 0.8 million compared to 2009 half year’s Group- EBIT. The result of the period was EUR -14.9 million (9 M 2008: EUR 9.5 mill.).

VERBIO – Production of biomethane will start end of 2009

Leipzig/Zörbig; August 24, 2009 – In today’s general annual meeting of VERBIO Vereinigte BioEnergie AG, Claus Sauter, the CEO of the company announced in his speech that VERBIO will start to produce biomethane end of this year respective beginning of 2010 both in Zörbig and in Schwedt/Oder „In the first stage of implementation our facilities will have a size of 30 MegaWatt each, generating about 480 GWh annually. The first feed-in of biomethane into a natural gas distribution system will occur in the 3rd quarter of 2010. Mid term it is scheduled to increase the output capacity to 125 MegaWatt“, said Claus Sauter.

According to the contract dated April 1, 2009, VERBIO Vereinigte BioEnergie AG (VERBIO) realized their shares of 25.2 percent to the main shareholder GATE Global Alternative Energy Holding AG.

VERBIO increased revenues by nearly 260 million Euros and generated a positive result in 2008. Authoritative forecast for fiscal year 2009 presently not possible.

Leipzig, 23 March 2009 – In the financial year 2008 VERBIO achieved consolidated revenues in the amount of EUR 666.6 million (2007: EUR 408.0 million). Due to demand and price effects, revenues were 63.4 percent or EUR 258.6 million over the prior year’s amount. Although the increased taxation of pure biodiesel (B100) in 2008 from 9 cents per liter to 15 cents per liter put heavy pressure on the biodiesel market, demand for bio fuels in total remained stable, so VERBIO was able to profit from the increased sales prices and relatively stable raw material prices.

The biofuels industry's request for a binding EU-wide ruling on the promotion of renewable energy sources has been implemented. VERBIO expects an increase in demand for sustainably produced biodiesel and bioethanol.

Zörbig/Leipzig, 17 December 2008 – On 12 December 2008, the EU heads of state and government ratified the Directive on the Promotion of Renewable Energies as part of the EU climate package. This is the first time that a binding ruling on the use of renewable energy sources in the transport sector has been passed at the EU level. The management board at VERBIO Vereinigte BioEnergie AG (VERBIO) predicts that this directive will have considerable impact on the nature of the regulatory framework in Germany.

Study: German bioethanol saves up to 80% CO2 emissions – Federal Cabine forces over 25 per cent of biofuel manufactureers into bankruptcy

Berlin, 25 November 2008 German bioethanol manufactured from grain emits up to 80% less CO2 than fossil fuels. These are the findings of a study carried out by the Heidelberg IFEU Institute (Institute for Energy and Environmental Research) and commissioned by the biofuel manufacturer VERBIO Vereinigte BioEnergie AG. “We are very gratified by the positive results which have emerged from this investigation of our production plants. With the impetus provided by the enormous potential of our production techniques, VERBIO will be commissioning the world’s two largest biogas plants next year,” says Claus Sauter, VERBIO’s CEO. “The best part about it is that the raw material for the biogas production is a waste product of the ethanol production.“

VERBIO Vereinigte BioEnergie: Improved competitive position and an increase in demand resulting in higher capacity utilisation and rise in sales

Leipzig/Zörbig, 14 November 2008 – VERBIO Vereinigte BioEnergie AG, one of the leading producers and suppliers of biofuels, increased Group sales in the first nine months of fiscal year 2008 by nearly 60 per cent to EUR 490.6 million compared to last year’s Group sales of EUR 307.1 million. In the reporting period a total of 389,053 tonnes (9 months 2007: 371,705 tonnes) of biofuels were produced, a plus of almost five per cent. The cost of materials amounted to EUR 431.1 million (9 months 2007: EUR 267.1 million). Gross profit rose by 23.9 per cent to EUR 56.2 million (9 months 2007: EUR 45.4 million). The operating Group result (EBIT) ran to EUR 15.1 million (9 months 2007: EUR 1.5 million) and includes profit of commodity futures of EUR 2.2 million (9 months 2007: EUR 0.0 million). As of 30 September 2008 VERBIO disposes of liquid funds of EUR 67.3 million (31.12.2007: EUR 57.1 million).

VERBIO restarts bioethanol production at its Zörbig plant

Leipzig, 1st October 2008: After a temporary production stop in Zörbig plant VERBIO Vereinigte BioEnergie AG is restarting production of bioethanol on 6th October 2008. All employees working on short-time in September 2008 will readopt their function.

Growth in cash flow and earnings in first half of 2008, Study proves VERBIO biofuels reduce CO2 emissions by over 80 percent

Leipzig/Zörbig, 14 August 2008: VERBIO Vereinigte BioEnergie AG, one of the leading producers and suppliers of biofuels, achieved significant year-on-year growth in sales, as well as cash-flow and earnings, in the first six months of its fiscal year 2008. Sales revenue was up 46.6 percent to EUR 298.8 million as of 30 June 2008. Gross margin improved from EUR 29.6 million to EUR 37.6 million. The company’s operating result (EBIT) before commodity futures rose to EUR 10.2 million, compared with EUR 1.1 million last year. VERBIO had cash and cash equivalents of EUR 73.8 million as of 30 June 2008, representing an increase of EUR 16.7 million compared with EUR 57.1 million as of 31 December 2007.

VERBIO: the Biodiesel result improved against previous year, higher operating cash flow, equity ratio 59.5%

Leipzig/Zörbig, May 15, 2008: In the first 3 months of the current 2008 financial year VERBIO, shows a sales plus of 21.3% to 125.1 million EUR (Q1 2007: 103.1 million EUR) compared to the previous year’s period. The Gross Margin accounts for 17.8 million EUR after 16.1 million EUR in Q1 2007, the operating result of the Group is 0.7 Mio. EUR versus 3.3 million EUR in the first quarter 2007. The decrease of the result follows from still to be processed forward contracts in the segment ethanol and less capacity utilisation compared to previous year’s utilisation. The result of the period is -1.4 million EUR (Q1 2007: 0.3 million EUR).

Sprint Tank GmbH will be officially opening its new Sprint flagship in the Berlin borough of Zehlendorf on November 28, 2007. As Sprint Tank GmbH says, “We’re back again – bigger and better than ever”. This medium-sized Berlin-based mineral oil company is returning to the Berlin borough of Zehlendorf after an absence of almost 15 years. Its business partners on this piece of real estate are McDonald’s, Cosy Wasch and Pit Stop.

VERBIO is opening its own petrol station on company grounds

Zörbig, Germany, November 16, 2007 – VERBIO is opening its own petrol station with VERBIO biofuels on its company grounds in Thura Mark 20 in Zörbig, Germany. It took a long time to get the permits needed, but they are finally there. And that’s a reason to celebrate for Dr. Wolfram Klein, managing director of MBE Mitteldeutsche BioEnergie GmbH & Co. Biodiesel business profitable, EBIT margin 5.9% – Ethanol well below expectations – Outlook confirmed

Zörbig/Leipzig, November 14, 2007 – In the first nine months of 2007 VERBIO Vereinigte BioEnergie AG (VERBIO) achieved Group revenues of 307.1 million EUR. The operating result of the Group before special items was 6.8 million EUR corresponding to an EBIT margin of 2.2 %. The operating result after special items amounts to 1.5 million EUR (EBIT margin: 0.5%). As earnings before tax 0.4 million EUR were reported, and net profit -0.6 million EUR. Earnings per share are -0.01 EUR.

Bioethanol plant in Schwedt powered down – short-time working from October

VERBIO Vereinigte BioEnergie AG (VERBIO) powered down production at its bioethanol plant in Schwedt as planned this week. “We are currently fully engaged in carrying out intensive cleaning and maintenance work, from October it is likely that we will apply for short-time working,” comments Klaus-Dieter Bettien, Managing Director of NBE Nordbandenburger BioEnergie GmbH & Co. KG, a 100 per cent subsidiary of VERBIO.
