VERBIO received the dena Biogas Product of the Year 2011 award - the jury is convinced again
VERBIO receives the distinction within the framework of the biogas partnership competition for the second time, having already been honoured for its biogas innovation in 2010. The German Energy Agency awards prizes in a total of three categories for innovative players in the biogas industry each year.
"We are very proud that the jury has recognised our biogas as being an economically and ecologically useful product" explains Claus Sauter, CEO of VERBIO AG. "We set standards in the areas of cost-effectiveness and ecological balance. Natural gas mobility with verbiogas now already reduces CO2 emissions by 90 percent compared to petrol. And as we only use agricultural waste such as straw and stillage, we are also not in competition to foodstuff manufacturers."
VERBIO biogas is created by combining a biogas facility with a bioethanol plant and a bio-fertiliser plant. Such a large-scale biogas refinery is unique worldwide. The product marketed under the brand "verbiogas" is not produced using foodstuff raw materials, but instead solely from agricultural waste such as stillage or straw. To some extent, the waste products used come from the company's own bio-ethanol production. As a result, VERBIO makes use of raw materials twice and achieves a particularly efficient and CO2-saving manufacture. 90 percent of the raw materials used are converted into bioethanol and biogas. The inorganic remainder is returned to the sustainable agricultural cycle again in form of bio fertiliser.
Refined to the same quality standard as natural gas, and then fed into the existing natural gas network, verbiogas is available as a fuel at natural gas filling stations. Since the start of 2011, VERBIO has been supplying numerous city utilities in Germany, including Munich, Augsburg and Braunschweig. Throughout Germany, VERBIO currently supplies over 20 natural gas filling stations which offer 100 percent biogas.
