verbioglycerine

Glycerine is an alcohol. It’s the more common term used for propane-1,2,3-triol. Glycerine occurs in all natural fats and oils as fatty acid ester and plays a key role as an intermediate in various metabolic processes. Glycerine can be obtained in petrochemical and biotechnological processes as well as in biodiesel production.

With a purity of 99,8% verbioglycerine is of high quality and is a very versatile substance which can be used in the cosmetic, food or pharmaceutical industries. For that reason it is kosher and halal certified.

Production of verbioglycerine

Glycerine is a side product of VERBIO’s biodiesel production involving the transesterification of vegetable oils with methanol. The reaction is prompted by a catalyst. By the chemical reaction taking place the triglycerides of the vegetable oil are cleaved into fatty acids and glycerine. The fatty acids react with the methanol and methyl esters to give fatty acid methyl esters (FAME) – in other words biodiesel. The FAME is then separated from the glycerine.

In the next stage, by adding inorganic acids the catalyst is converted into poorly soluble salts and separated. Afterwards, the biodiesel or FAME is purified by washing it a number of times and then drying it in an evaporator. In this stage, the by-products crude glycerine and inorganic salts arise. The remaining crude glycerine is purified by distillation to produce pharmaceutical grade glycerine.

This high-quality glycerine is used in chemical pharmaceutical industries. To meet our customers' quality requirements, our plants have a state-of-the-art laboratory where all quality parameters can be analysed and monitored.

The high-quality glycerine is used by cosmetics and pharmaceutical industries. Our modern laboratory equipment allows us to monitor, report and ensure all quality requirements of our customers.
